Summer team day 2016
Before the celebrations started, we had some work to do. Senior Translator Catherine Entwistle kicked off with a session on quality assurance and feedback. As a company, we take quality extremely seriously and it was really useful to discuss different approaches and ideas with the whole team.
Next up, Siobhan took the reins to introduce her idea of a “translation slam”. This meant working together to come up with a translation for a text. The activity was completely different to anything we’ve ever done during our team days and was a truly enjoyable way to spend the rest of the morning. While we are very lucky in that we have the support of the team in our day-to-day work, we don’t often get the chance to translate an entire document collaboratively. Splitting into two groups, we all sat down to discuss the text – a fascinating article on smart cities. The most interesting part was hearing all of the different solutions during and at the end of the process – it really did show that there is no such thing as “just one” translation.
After a busy morning, we headed into Manchester city centre for some well-deserved tapas at La Vina (tapas are definitely a firm favourite with the LKTeam). The food went down an absolute storm, as did the cava and sangria, of course. As the weather finally decided to perk up for the evening, we headed to Spinningfields and watched the evening go by outside The Slug and Lettuce. Safe to say there were a few sore heads the next morning but a very enjoyable evening was had by all.
