CERTIFIED TRANSLATION AND THE ITI

We are often asked to provide certified translation or sworn translation services for legal certificates or contracts for official use. The UK’s common law system makes no provision for the “sworn translator” concept found in countries governed by civil law. However, there is an equivalent: as qualified members of the ITI, our translators are permitted to “certify” translations. Although certification does not in itself “prove” quality, all members of the ITI have to undergo a rigorous qualification process including testing of their translation abilities prior to being accepted as members of the Institute. They must also commit to adhering to an exacting code of conduct. Certification of a translation by a qualified MITI lends weight to that translation.
