Episode 3 of LKTeam Talks podcast inspired by SWATI event
Starting out as a translator can be a daunting task for anyone new to the industry. How do you go about getting work in the first place? How do you break out of the vicious cycle of “no experience, no work”? Here at LKT we have the Translator Academy, a programme in which fledgling translators have the opportunity to complete live projects while receiving detailed feedback from a dedicated mentor. Laura and Hollie, LKT’s current cohort of trainee translators, have benefited greatly from the Translator Academy model. As relative newcomers to the industry, they decided to attend the ITI’s Starting Work as a Translator or Interpreter (SWATI) event, hosted by the University of Westminster in central London on 15 June, to see which industry developments were being touted as the next big thing – and maybe even meet some potential new recruits…
The day was packed full of presentations for new entrants to the industry, covering everything from transcreation to how to stand out on social media. Be sure you keep your ear to the ground for our upcoming podcast episode, in which Laura and Hollie will be talking more about what they learned on the day. Watch this space!
