CERTIFIED TRANSLATION
We are often asked to provide certified translation or sworn translation services for legal certificates or contracts for official use. The UK’s common law system makes no provision for the “sworn translator” concept found in countries governed by civil law. However, there is an equivalent: our memberships of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), Association of Translation Companies (ATC) and Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), our translators permit us to “certify” translations. Although certification does not in itself “prove” quality, each of these organisations vets members thoroughly before approving them for entry. For example, all qualified members of the ITI have to undergo a rigorous qualification process including testing of their translation abilities prior to being accepted as members of the Institute. They must also commit to adhering to an exacting code of conduct. Certification of a translation by a qualified MITI lends weight to that translation.
