Siobhan is key to day-to-day production at LKT. Her role involves translation and revision as well as acting as a mentor and coach to new entrants to the profession in our Translator Academy. Siobhan has been instrumental in the development of the Academy and the nature and delivery of its content. She is the go-to person for in-house translators and freelance partners who have linguistic queries, and can always be relied upon to come up with a suggestion or solution, being ready, willing and able to share her expertise at all times. Her contributions are recognised not only by them but also by LKT’s customers. Just recently, one of our German customers wrote: “Thank you for the thorough checking and detailed evaluation. I don’t recall having received feedback like this one for a test translation.”
Alongside her production role, Siobhan is responsible for our social media output, managing our Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts. Her engaging posts ensure that LKT’s message is heard loud and clear by the outside world. Siobhan is also tasked with running and updating our website, including our CPD Store, which gives freelance partners direct access to a variety of training materials developed in-house. In addition, she gives presentations at our LKTeam Days, on topics ranging from research to revision skills to reference material.
Additionally, Siobhan deputises in the absence of our Managing Director, Louise, looking after operations to ensure that production runs smoothly. Her tasks include juggling our hectic schedule, liaising with freelance partners and managing relationships with our customers – all of this alongside translating and revising!
Siobhan is a Qualified Member (MITI) of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. In 2013 she was awarded the John Hayes Prize by the Institute for the best result in the examination for achieving qualified status. She has also obtained Chartered Linguist status (MCIL CL) from the Chartered Institute of Linguists. She is a member of the ITI Scottish Network’s committee and edits its regular newsletter. In 2018, Siobhan was one of three candidates shortlisted in the Employee of the Year category at the Rochdale Business Awards, and in 2019, she was awarded the prestigious Translator of the Year prize at the Association of Translation Companies’ Language Industry Summit.
Whether she’s translating (or revising) 10 or 10,000 words, Siobhan’s commitment and dedication to delivering the best possible quality never wavers. Reflecting on Siobhan’s time with LKT, Louise says: “Nothing is ever too much trouble for Siobhan and it’s both a pleasure and a privilege to work with her. I’ve been delighted to support her professional journey so far and I look forward to working with her to achieve even more in the years to come.”
